Step-by-step guide for students

This step by guide provides students with instructions to access an online textbook in Blackboard. You can pay the fee either with a code bought at the bookstore, or by credit card or PayPal.

  1. Access your course in Blackboard.
  2. Click Content (or follow your instructor's directions for getting to your online textbook content)
  3. Click the link for the first chapter of your textbook. Note: Depending upon your instructor’s course setup, you may also need to click Launch to open the content.
  4. When the logo appears, click on it and you’ll be prompted to enter an access key.

Select either “Enter Access Key” or select your method of payment (credit card or Paypal).

If you’ve purchased an access key from the bookstore or your instructor provided you with a key, click Enter Access Key.

After your access key is entered or payment is completed, you’ll typically see an introduction page or the beginning of the textbook. When you click on a new link from the Content page, that chapter or activity is unlocked so that work can be completed.

To see your online textbook contents and results page, click on the logo while in any chapter.

Your chapter has not been submitted for grading until you click Continue on the last page of the chapter and then indicate that the chapter is complete and you wish to submit your work.

The Chapters column contains the live links to each chapter where you follow page by page and complete any activities, quizzes, and journal entries.  Be sure to click Continue at the bottom of every page!

The View Results column is where you can view your submitted quizzes and journals, along with grade information.

The Assessments column has links to your completed assessment reports.

Note:  You have the ability to stop working within a chapter and go back to review or change entries (except quizzes).  However, once you submit a chapter, it is locked and you can only view it again.
